To meet the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which came into force on 25th May 2018, all organisations handling personal data, including schools, need to have the right governance measures.
Data plays a key role in our modern education system by providing opportunities to monitor effectively the progress of our children, enabling us to evaluate methods, promote evidence-based practice, and provide opportunities for improvements in the way we operate. The use of data in education has developed significantly in recent years. It is therefore right that the law, processes and capabilities required were updated to meet the growing demands imposed by modern data protection challenges.
The new legislation has meant we have audited where our school is in identifying risks and actions to minimise and manage these. It is also means that you are informed on the use of data and associated rights. We have developed our policies and processes for data management, from collecting and handling the data through to the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to data breaches.
