  • British Science Week Competition 2022

Mon 21 Mar 2022 Mr Brazier

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week in school we were engaged in British Science week – with each class dedicating an extra session to science that was based around the theme of ‘Growth’.

In my assembly last week, I spoke to the children about the many different things that exhibit growth.  We spoke about the obvious growth that we can see before us in things such as plants, animals and humans but we also spoke about more abstract growth such as having a growth mind set and growing friendships.

As a follow up to British Science Week we have asked the children if they would like to take part in a National competition based around the theme of ‘Growth’ – organised by the British Science Organisation.  The challenge is to create a poster that explains a form of growth.  This could be showing a simple step by step diagram of how a plant, animal or human grows or it could be a poster explaining growth in a different context such as how a city grows, or how our mind grows, it could even be as big as how the universe grows!  No topic is off limits really as long as it links back to growth.

The judges have said that they will be looking at the following when making their decisions:

    • Creativity in approach – Innovative angle on the content or creative interpretation of the theme
    • Content – Clear, accurate and informative about a STEM topic
    • Effective communication – presented and communicated in an engaging way

There are more details about the competition on the British Science Week website.

    https://www.britishscienceweek.org/plan-your-activities/poster-competition/

If your child wishes to enter the competition, this can be done either directly through the website or your child can bring their entry into school by Thursday 7th April (I will send them off on your child’s behalf).  We have had some amazing entries so far and I will be putting up some examples onto our website and the school Facebook page later today to help you come up with some ideas.

    Kind Regards

    Mr Brazier

  • URGENT INFORMATION

Mon 04 Jan 2021 Miss Hurt

    Hi All

Tonight, at 8.00pm, the government informed us of a national lockdown commencing at midnight tonight.  This means that we are not allowed to leave our house unless it is absolutely necessary and if you can work from home, you must.

All schools are now closed but key worker and vulnerable children can still attend.

Due to the late notice of the announcement, it has been decided that school will be closed for ALL children tomorrow in order for us to be able to organise and sort out key worker and vulnerable children numbers, staffing for this and home learning.  I know this may inconvenience some of you who are key workers, and I do apologise for this, but please understand that we have only just found out this information and need tomorrow to be able to put plans in place safely and effectively.

I will be in contact tomorrow re key worker and vulnerable children; home learning through Tapestry and Google Classroom will begin on Wednesday and Zoom calls will start next week.

As always, we are a team and we will work together.  It is a worrying time for us all but we will get through this lockdown supporting each other.

    Best wishes, Miss Hurt

  • National Online Safety Advice

    Sun 21 Jun 2020

A Guide on How Not to Be a Screen Zombie (Advice from National Online Safety)

Despite the partial reopening of schools from the beginning of the month, there’s a good chance that many children’s device usage will have increased over lockdown. With the online world more accessible than ever and the ability to watch almost anything on-demand, it can be easy for children to check their phone, swipe their tablet or fire-up their games console during large parts of the day. That’s why we’ve created this guide to help increase children’s awareness around screen addiction.

I have added the article to our Online Safety Curriculum Page for you.

Race after race, activity after activity they watched in awe as the children competed to the very best of their ability and in true Eureka style.
